~ What I Do ~

Photography means writing with light — literally: photo = light, graphy = writing in creation of a representation of a given thing. So a photograph is a visual narration, a story told in a preserved instant.

Each of us sees the world in a unique way. How we see a flower, a person, a place, is colored by our own personal vision. I like to share what I see, as I see it, and I try to keep it simple. No over manipulation, no digital tricks adding in houses or people or whatever. If I am going to spend hours manipulating a picture into something that was never there...why did I take the photo in the first place?

  • SIGHTINGS & BLOOMINGS: I love nature photography because I never know what I am going to find when I walk out the door with my camera. I may have in mind a special place to photograph...but when I arrive, what will the light be like? What will have changed since my last visit to a sight? What challenges of weather or wind will I have to overcome to get a great photograph? Every trip is a surprise!

  • CEREMONY: Weddings are equally an adventure. I meet new people, move from beautiful location to beautiful location, all the while telling a story of a happy day. It does not get much more fun than that! My goal with weddings is to tell the story of the day as it unfolds. I am not there to poke or pose or rearrange every instant of the day. I am there to capture what really happens as it happens, and to gather up all the little details that were so important in the planning.

  • MOTION: Rafts, kayaks, skis, bikes...gear and people on the move! It's a much loved challenge to capture the feel and pace of an event as well as the individual natures of the people participating.
